GO SmartTrack

June 21, 2016

Mayor John Tory debuts “GO SmartTrack”: a platform about more than just Toronto transit. Mayor John Tory made two big public announcements about eight new GO Transit stops this week, six of which the mayor called part of SmartTrack. The fanfare events seemed to be about more than just the mayor’s campaign promises — they also brought attention to Metrolinx’s transit plans for the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area, signalling future integration between both networks. It also drew forward city councillors Paula Fletcher, Mary-Margaret McMahon, Mike Layton, Ana Bailão and Josh Colle to stand behind the mayor on his SmartTrack platform. It was a move that political strategist Nick Kouvalis (Toronto Life’s No. 17 most influential Torontonian last year) called brilliant on Twitter.
