Government Management Committee, Sept. 6, 2016
First day of school jitters not just for kids, says Councillor Michael Ford. Tuesday was the first day of school for lots of kids in the city, and also the first week back in committees for many councillors at City Hall. For the new Councillor Michael Ford, it was his first committee meeting ever, even his first time in Committee Room 1. Before the day started, Councillor Joe Cressy spent some time with the new councillor explaining how to read some of the documents for the committee. Cressy also welcomed Ford, and acknowledged gleefully to the committee he is no longer the youngest councillor on council. (Ford is 22. Cressy is 32.) After the meeting ended, Ford admitted he shared some of the first-day jitters that so many school kids had Tuesday morning. “Yeah, a little bit … I’ve been around the place so I kinda know what to expect. Being in the room as a city councillor is definitely new and I’m excited.” Ford didn’t ask any questions during the meeting; he said he wanted to sit in and listen. “I think more than likely I will be sitting on this committee,” Ford said.
